‘Anela’ means angel in Hawaiian. Historically, in 1820, Queen Ka’ahumanu made Hula a forbidden since it was conceived by the Christians to be too sensual and seductive. It was taught and performed only in secret before King Kamehameah III reestablished it in the 1830’s. “Anela,” is a fictional depiction of one of the most beautiful dancers who danced secretly during that forbidden time.
