Sirin the Messenger – Original Painting

Not available for sale.

“Sirin- The Messenger” is a one-of-a-kind painting on gold leaf and a professionally built box frame and wrapped in brushed aluminum. There are several layers to this painting, including a weaved texture underneath the gold leaf to create motion in the image. The hummingbird is a sealed pencil drawing, representing the swiftness and spirit of the messenger. Since the entire painting is layered with gold leaf, it’s color will produce gorgeous gold’s, reds, yellow and copper colors when the light hits it just right!

This paining dates back to 2014 and was a featured piece in my solo exhibition called “Dreams and Stitches.” She also recently showcased in Spago at the Four Seasons resort this past year.

Originally, when I began working on this painting, I kept envisioning a woman’s face wearing a hat or crown. And, the woman had wings instead of arms.

According to Wikipedia and a resource titled, Slavs Magic-Folk Knowledge and Wise Advice of our Ancestors, “Sirin is a mythological creature of Russian legends, with the head and chest of a beautiful woman and the body of a bird. In the 17-18th century and according to myth, the Sirins lived near Paradise and they would often sing beautiful songs to the saints, foretelling future joys. They also symbolize world harmony. People in those times believed only really happy people could hear a Sirin, while only very few could see one because she is as fast and difficult to catch as human happiness. She symbolizes eternal joy and heavenly happiness!”

I didn’t discover this until after I finished painting her, and was having a difficult time coming up with a name. I decided to look up “woman with arms for wings” on the internet, and that’s when I learned about Sirin. Pretty wild, right?!

Anyways, I included a pencil drawing of a hummingbird to be with Sirin, as they are both powerful spirits and they share important messages with one-another to bring to their loved ones. Xo
